Where is She Now?
First, a shout out to Charlotte Metro Hyperbarics (Miranda's clinic of choice) for winning the "Hyperbaric Clinic of the Year Award" from the 7th Annual INTERNATIONAL HBOT SYMPOSIUM held in Irvine, California in July, 2010. I knew there was a reason we drove all that way. Congratulations for your much-deserved recognition.
We receive a number of requests to see video of Miranda as she is today (October 2010).
As of this writing she is 3 1/2 years old and doing very well. We haven't pursued HBOT beyond Aetna's decision because (a) Aetna made it perfectly clear they would not reimburse going forward and (b) she is doing so well it almost doesn't feel necessary.
Miranda continues to have low muscle tone which affects her movement and speech. We address that with physical, occupational and speech therapies. Otherwise she is a happy, fun, witty little kid who is 100% potty trained. She has a vivid imagination and a clear ability to learn -- not only with tutelage but on her own.
She is in preschool and takes a weekly dance class with typical peers.
It's difficult to capture her true, conversational self on video because she's intensely aware of the camera's presence and grows shy when it's around. Nonetheless, below is a cross section of clips from summer/fall 2010.
