HBOT Round One

Miranda was 14 months old when we began HBOT.  She still could not crawl or support weight on her legs.  She was also a human siren, miserable to be in her own body.

She received 40 treatments of 100% oxygen at 1.5 atmospheric over 20 days.  On the fourth day, after only 9 treatments, Miranda crawled for the first time.  She also supported weight on her legs, something else she'd never done before.

Her attitude also changed.  Miranda was squealing less and smiling more.  Previously, she acted as if she couldn't even see the television.  By the end of the 40 treatments she could sit and watch a video beginning to end.

Because the treatment was an off-label use for HBOT, we suspected Aetna wouldn't cover it.  We paid out-of-pocket and submitted the receipt to Aetna for reimbursement just in case.

Coverage was denied.

We later learned that the high Creatine Kinase (CK) level in Miranda's blood, while still high, dropped following HBOT.
